From the 11th of March to the 2nd of April 2025, Green Football is launching The #GreatSave to bring fans, clubs, and communities together to score big for the planet.
Green Football is an initiative focused on reducing the environmental impact of the sports industry, and The Great Save campaign is your chance to get involved. It’s a simple, yet powerful way to take action on climate change, and every pledge or action you take brings us one step closer to a greener future.
Did you know that an estimated 100,000 tonnes of sportswear end up in UK landfills. To put that into perspective, that’s the equivalent of 951 shirts per minute! What happens to that waste? It sits in landfills. Landfills generate huge amounts of methane, one of the most harmful greenhouse gases contributing to climate change.
But here’s where Green Football makes a difference. By keeping your sports kit in use for longer – whether through reusing, recycling, or choosing second-hand options – you help keep these materials out of the waste stream. Extending the life of your clothes by just nine more months can reduce its carbon, water, and waste footprint by up to 30%.
It’s a small action with a huge environmental benefit. That’s the kind of impact we can have when we all come together to make mindful choices.
