Sports for Nature
Sports for Nature (S4N) aims to use the power of sport to drive positive environmental change by 2030 and beyond. The initiative focuses on encouraging sports organisations to protect and restore nature, contributing to global conservation efforts.

Birmingham County Football Association has become a signatory to the Sports for Nature initiative. This global effort is led by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), International Olympic Committee (IOC), United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity, and Dona Bertarelli Philanthropy.

A Framework for Action

The core of the S4N initiative is its Framework, launched in December 2022, which guides sports organisations in making measurable contributions to nature. The Framework is built on four key principles:
-
Protect Nature: Ensure sports activities do not harm natural habitats and species.
-
Restore and Regenerate: Engage in efforts to restore and regenerate ecosystems.
-
Reduce Risks: Identify and minimise risks to nature within supply chains.
-
Educate and Inspire: Use sport to educate and inspire positive action for nature.

Building Capacity and Raising Awareness

Alongside the Framework, the S4N initiative is developing capacity-building programmes and a global campaign to empower sports organisations to lead nature-positive efforts. These components will provide the tools and knowledge needed to implement the Framework’s principles and raise awareness among broader audiences.
A Commitment to Nature

By joining Sports for Nature, Save Today, Play Tomorrow has strengthened its commitment to protecting the environment, setting an example for others in the sports community.
